The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is a program based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the aim is to teach children about human rights and to help them to understand that children have specific human rights too. It focuses on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.
At Henry Maynard Primary School we have decided to begin our journey on the Rights Respecting School Award program as children's rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture. A rights respecting school is a community where children’s
rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Children are taught about their rights and the responsibility they have to respect those rights. They will learn for example, that they have the right to play and they must respect that right and the rights of others by playing appropriate games and by making good choices whilst playing.
Our aim is for the children and the school community to learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.
